SUMMARY:Terracotta Painting. Myth And Image In Painted Slabs Of Cerveteri June 22nd @ 10:30 – December 22nd @ 20:30
DESCRIPTION:Superintendence of Archeology\, Fine Arts and Landscape for the metropolitan area of Rome\, the province of Viterbo and southern Etruria \nSanta Severa’s Castle will host\, until December 22nd\, the “Painting of terracotta” exhibition. Myth and image in the painted slabs of Cerveteri”\, thanks to the recovery in 2016 in Geneva\, carried out by the Carabinieri Command – Protection of Cultural Heritage\, of archaeological artefacts stolen in southern Etruria\, in one of the most important operations of recent years. \nA timely restoration of the entire complex of painted slabs\, correlated by scientific analysis\, by the Superintendency\, has allowed to return to the community\, in a very short time from the recovery\, the extraordinary archaeological evidence that in the exhibition spaces of the Castle of Santa Severa find a perfect place for enjoyment\, thanks to the precious collaboration with Regione Lazio\, LAZIOcrea\, the Municipality of Santa Marinella\, the Municipality of Cerveteri and Coopculture. \nThe recovery is a fundamental page for the reconstruction of the history of Etruscan painting: among the exhibits we can recognize a large number of fragments of painted slabs coming from Cerveteri\, unfortunately without any context data which\, due to the technical characteristics and refinement of execution\, until now they were known only from specimens present in some of the most important Italian and foreign museum collections. The recovery was followed by the ratification\, in 2015\, of an important cultural cooperation agreement signed between the MiBACT and the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek Museum in Copenhagen\, which involved the return to Italy of a substantial series of fragments of painted slabs\, similar to those in Geneva. \nThe Conference and the exhibition also want to represent the due recognition of the indefatigable and extremely qualified activity of the Carabinieri Command for Cultural Heritage Protection\, in their action to combat illegal trafficking of works of art. Protection of heritage\, scientific research and participation of local communities\, enhancement of cultural testimonies are fundamental aspects of the activity of MiBACT which on this occasion find a particularly effective synthesis.

SUMMARY:Exhibition-Competition of the 2nd Biennial of Artistic High Schools on the theme "Il Viaggio"
DESCRIPTION:Great success at WEGIL for the exhibition-contest on the theme “Il viaggio” (“The journey”\, translator’s note) which presented 200 works by students of 150 Italian high schools. The exhibit moves to the Santa Severa’s Castle\, in the Pyrgi area starting from June 9th\, with inauguration at 18:00. \nThe Biennial of artistic high schools represented an “incubator” of creativity and innovation\, a ‘traveling festival’\, where art becomes the medium for living and spreading culture contaminated by beauty and knowledge. This year’s theme was the journey\, which urged an often-inner key\, the journey inside oneself\, the journey of the soul\, but also the reference to the Remembrance journey and the journey of migrants. \nStarting from the next edition\, the Biennial will be included among the initiatives of the national plan for the enhancement of excellence and the winning students will be included in the national register of excellence. \nThe ticket to the inauguration on June 9th\, starting at 18.00\, is free (you have to collect it at the ticket office of the Castle); on the other days the visit to the exhibition is included in the admission ticket.

SUMMARY:On Stage The Itinerant Theater With William Shakespeare's OTHELLO
DESCRIPTION:On 2 and 3 June 2018\, with two shows at 7.00 pm and 8.30 pm inside the Castle of Santa Severa\, the Controtempo Theater Company will guide the audience in the enchanting atmosphere of the places of the village\, thus reviving the tragic events of Iago\, Othello and Desdemona and all the other characters of the famous drama “Othello” by Shakespeare with the Directed by Lilith Petillo and Pasquale Candela. The event is organized in collaboration with Regione Lazio\, LAZIOcrea\, Mibact\, the Municipality of Santa Marinella and Coopculture. Between fights\, desperation and moments of passion\, the drama of Moro will revive in a completely innovative and engaging version. The show\, in fact\, will be “itinerant”: in this sense\, the public will have the opportunity to witness the performance by immersing itself in the beauty of the different environments of the location and feeling an integral part of the work. \n“When we decided to stage Othello” – we read in the director’s notes – we linked it to the possibility of bringing it on stage to castles\, villages and other places of great historical-cultural interest. So this has bound us in the choice of its stage performance. It is certainly a rewrite: we have chosen to see the whole work through the eyes of Iago who is a manipulator\, this decision comes from the locations where we put on show the show that allow us to remain loyal to the Otello both in costumes and in stylistic choices… We tried to represent a traveling work where the actors are always in close contact with the spectators. We find ourselves in halls or open spaces\, with the audience standing three meters from the actor. Such a relationship of closeness and proxemics leads us to have to act in a more naturalistic way trying to transmit all those concepts that we consider important. The character of Iago\, for directorial choices\, breaks the fourth wall in many moments\, often speaks with the audience and drags him from one environment to another: the need to mobilize the audience comes from the desire to fully introduce the audience in the show”. \nThe cast is made up of young professional actors. Othello\, struggling with his irrepressible jealousy\, will be Dario Carbone. Iago\, probably one of the most complex characters of Shakespearean writings\, cunning\, evil and improbably insane\, will be played by Venancio Amoroso. On the other hand\, actress Paola Fiore Burgos will take on the role of the beautiful young Desdemona. Cassio\, faithful lieutenant of the Moro\, will be Danilo Franti. Roderigo\, madly in love with Desdemona\, will be interpreted instead by Marco Guglielmi; in the role of Emilia\, wife of Iago\, we will find Lilith Petillo\, while Montano\, a friend of Otello\, will be Massimiliano Cutrera. \nTime: \n19.00 first performance \n20.30 second performance \nTicket cost: 15\,00 euros for people aged from 14 years\n10\,00 euros for children aged 7 to 13\nFree for children aged up to 6 years \n  \nOBLIGATORY BOOKING – limited seats

SUMMARY:On stage a unique act by Dario Fo "I 3 bravi"
DESCRIPTION:On May 12th and 13th\, at 7:30 pm\, at the Castle of Santa Severa\, in the Sala del Nostromo a unique act written by Dario Fo\, “I 3 Bravi” directed by Paolo Paoloni\, will be staged. The staging is of the Association. Amateur Theater “I Semiseri” and the event is organized in collaboration with Regione Lazio\, LAZIOcrea\, MiBACT\, Santa Marinella Municipality and Coopculture. The Castle of Santa Severa becomes more and more a cultural hub and continues its action of spreading culture\, ranging from music\, theater and historical re-enactments. \nThe pièce is a unique act by Dario Fo\, the most authentic expression of his comic theater\, so modern and actual but also linked to our most lively tradition. It is a theater that springs from an uncontrollable desire to make the audience laugh\, but also by a sensitive\, caustic mood firmly anchored to everyday life; a theater that has its roots in the commedia dell’arte and in the populous farce of the early 1900s\, which captures elements of the Elizabethan and Expressionist theater; but\, together\, an unmistakable theater that is essentially Dario Fo. \nPaolo Paoloni’s directorial notes reconstruct the story set in “An old castle\, where an old castellan who is terrified by the ghosts that infest his home wants to hire a super-energetic forceful that is able to drive them out. They come in three (the three good) to compete in place. But are they really so brave as they claim to? And let us not forget the fundamental presence of the three spinster daughters of the castellan\, who would be happy to take each one of the three “big men”. How will it end? Dario Fo builds here a pyrotechnic game of comic situations\, with an ending that satisfies everyone (and “all”!) And what about ghosts? Were they real? Let the viewer to discover it!” \nFor info and booking  T. +39.06.39967999

SUMMARY:From May 6th to 7th the 3rd edition of IOVINO
DESCRIPTION:The event organized by the cultural association “IO VINO”\, in collaboration with Regione Lazio\, LAZIOcrea\, MIBACT\, Coopculture and the Municipality of Santa Marinella\, will see the participation of over 60 producers and the holding of several seminars held by experts.\n\nThis year Marche and Campania will be protagonists\, both facing the sea but on the opposite sides of the “Boot” (Italy\, translator’s note). IO VINO 2018 will give the opportunity to learn more about these two magnificent lands\, since the reflections of the environment and local culture can be traced even in the typical products of a place and wine is certainly one of the most important to understand the essence. \nThe two regions\, despite being washed by the sea\, have a different climate because Campania is subject to Mediterranean and Atlantic currents while Marche is lashed by those coming from the Balkans. This different geographical location therefore influences and diversifies the wine production that\, for each region\, takes on specific features that make it unique and inimitable. Precisely this difference will be the object of comparison during the two days on the Lazio coast.\n \nThe exhibitors will offer the public wines produced with autochthonous vines – strictly D.O.C. and D.O.C.G. – which can be tasted at the tasting tables. \nDuring the event\, on Sunday May 6th\, two thematic seminars will be held on Greco and Pecorino: \nAt 3.00 pm at “Manica Corta”\, Francesco Quercetti\, enogastronomic critic and coordinator for Regione Marche of the Slow Wine guide\, will conduct a seminar on Pecorino in the 2014 vintage. \nAt 5.00 pm at “Manica Corta”\, Alessio Pietrobattista\, journalist\, collaborator and taster for the Gambero Rosso Italian wine guide\, and Monica Coluccia freelance journalist\, will conduct a seminar on Greco in the 2012 vintage.

SUMMARY:May from 3rd to 6th the medieval fighting of the Battle of the Nations
DESCRIPTION:From May 3rd to 6th\, the Castle of Santa Severa hosted the world final of the “Battle of the nations” tournament. The international event was organized by Historical Martial Combat Italy Federation\, C.S.E.N. (National Educational Sports Center) and HMBIA (Historical Medieval Battle International Association) in collaboration with Regione Lazio\, LAZIOcrea\, Mibact\, Municipality of Santa Marinella and Coopculture.\n \nBattle of the Nations is hosted every year in a different country\, for the 2018 edition it will be hosted in Italy and\, after the qualifying semi-finals of the Italian teams\, the location of the castle will be the setting for the world event. More than 700 fighters from different parts of the world will participate\, such as New Zealand to mention the farthest and China to mention one whose history is very different from the European Middle Ages. The categories are the 1vs1 divided into 4 disciplines (long sword\, sword and shield\, sword and brocchiere and weapon in auction\, both male and female) and group battles with 3vs3 female only and 5vs5 and 21vs21 male. Italy participates in the BotN since the second edition of 2011\, when the countries concerned were only 7 compared to 37 today and is represented by 50 fighters and participates in all disciplines. \nA medieval camp was built and a large tribune capable of accommodating 700 people seated in the area adjacent to the parking lot\, on the square of the Fontanile a large “medieval” market arose where to see a real blacksmith at the field forge\, try the weapons and the armor as well as engaging in simulated duels and archery followed by the masters of historical fencing weapons. On the Esplanade of the Lords a second arena was set up for the challenges 1vs1 and 2vs2. In addition\, parades in period costumes\, dances and medieval music have served as a side dish for the whole event. \nBattle of the nations Programme \n \n

SUMMARY:VIA|VIA CRUCIS VIA TERRA | VIA MARE | VIA CASA | VIA STORIA
DESCRIPTION:From March 25th to April 15th 2018> the exhibition is extended until April 25th 2018\nInauguration March 25 h. 11 \n\n\nTo Khaled al-Asaad\, guardian of beauty \n\n\nAn exhibition-event that focuses on the theme of migration faced in terms of human emergency\, before politics\, seen from the eyes of those who suffer the need and absolves the duty that feels stronger: Must Go Away. \n\nA work born from the synergy of Guido Orsini and Marcello Tagliente: the shots by Orsini reveal the different moments and conditions of a long journey ‘via’ the sea; the words of Tagliente tell the story of the forced navigators. \n\nSo that visual histories alternate with the rhythm of the poems and describe the travail of a detachment and the supreme hope that accompanies it: to survive. Mourning is in the abandonment of affections\, colors\, arts and crafts\, materials and tools; panoramas and landscapes built by generations of men. The abandonment of the roots of one’s own history\, of the depths of a cult.\nOf every beauty that belongs to the terrapropria (ownland\, translator’s note). \n\n\nThat beauty that the duty of departure transforms into a mournful memory that waits for becoming sacred\, while present\, but divine\, is the possibility of survival and instinct silently pronounces the most powerful of promises: Go Home. \nThe time of these deep emotions is in the photographic installations by Guido Orsini\, in the words of Marcello Tagliente\, in the sound of the waves of the Mare Nostrum. In the vivid memory of Khaled al-Asaad to whom this exhibition is dedicated. \nGUIDO ORSINI\nFrom 1967 to 1972 he attended the State Art Institute of Rome 2 and began his personal research in the field of graphic designing books\, covers\, symbols. From 1974 to 1994 he worked as a role teacher\, architectural design and modeling\, at the State Art Institute in Civitavecchia (from 1974 to 1985) and at the State Art Institute of Rome 2 (since 1985 to 1994). Since 1990 he began his research in the photographic field with experimentation and use of new techniques and alternative materials\, positive films of large format\, experimentation with toner and toning. From the beginning he is interested in exploring the relationship between photography\, graphics and painting. His works are part of public and private collections. \n\n\n\n\nMARCELLO TAGLIENTE\nComing from Puglia\, he lives in Rome where he works as an archaeologist at the Directorate General of Museums of the Ministry of Heritage and Cultural Activities and Tourism. He has promoted in Europe and in the world\, with exhibitions and conferences\, the knowledge of the ancient cultures of Italy and of the relationships with the other people settled in the Mediterranean basin. His poems are published in Italy\, France and Belgium. In his professional and poetic experience he promoted initiatives in Europe\, the Maghreb and Palestine that would promote\, in the name of peace\, dialogue between people of different cultures and religions. \n\n\nEVENTS RELATED TO THE EXHIBITION\n \nSunday\, March 25th h. 11.30\nPerformance of readings by Marcello Tagliente\, taken from his latest book “I sogni dei bambini di Siria. Voci e storie del  Mediterraneo”. Musical accompaniment by conductor Alessandro D’Alessandro. \n\n\n\n\nSunday\, April 8th h. 11.30\nLive performance by Stefano Saletti and Yasemin Sannino\, songs and music of the Mediterranean tradition. \n\n\nFriday\, Aprile 13th h. 10\nLuca Attanasio meets the students of the schools of the area.\nOn this day the children can give a toy to their secret friend who lives in Syria. \nSunday\, Aprile 15th h. 11.30\nMeeting with the author Luca Attanasio. SUMMARY:Giapponizzati. Racconti di un viaggio di moda
DESCRIPTION:“Giapponizzati. Racconti di un viaggio di moda” (“Japanized. Stories of a fashion journey”\, translator’s note) for the first time an important exhibition traces the influence that Japanese culture hadon Italian fashion and more. The exhibition-event\, under the aegis of Regione Lazio and the President Nicola Zingaretti\, LAZIOcrea and with the contribution of the Department of Education\, Research\, School\, University and Tourism led by Vice President Massimiliano Smeriglio\, will be hosted from October 26th 2017 to January 15th 2018 at the prestigious rooms\, just restored\, of Santa Severa’s Castle\, a few steps from Rome. \nThe union between the theme of the exhibition and the Castle – today the Museum – is revealed with the force of evidence\, by creating the ideal scenography. The exhibition\, curated by Stefano Dominella\, narrates not only the complex phenomenon that has been the “japanization”\, but also the interweaving of different cultures that have given rise to socio-economic\, political and cultural phenomena. \n“Giapponizzati. Racconti di un viaggio di moda” is based on the journey of Hasekura Tsunenaga\, the first Japanese samurai-ambassador\, emblematic figure and vassal converted to Christianity who\, in 1615\, arrived in Italy wearing sumptuous Indian drapes and Roman hats\, symbolizing how fashion manages to cross any border. The ambassador was housed in the castle of Santa Severa\, a short distance from the Roman port of Civitavecchia\, an important theatre for cultural exchanges. Hasekura Tsunenaga left Ishinomaki (Japan) in 1613 and was sent to Rome to meet Pope Paul V. This journey represents the only diplomatic and political response\, during the years of the great navigations\, of East Asia to the West. The diplomatic relations between Italy and Japan\, which arose out of necessity of a commercial nature\, then continued positively in the following decades and had enviable cultural consequences. Fashion tells history\, contamination\, culture. The story is read on the dressed body. Japanese exoticism has been a topic of great inspiration in literature\, music\, theatre\, art and fashion. In the early 1900s a widespread passion for Japan and its culture broke out in Europe and in Italy\, japanism was born. Female fashion changed drastically\, preferring larger garments with a strong oriental imprint\, volumes\, rigid fabrics\, overlays\, made of different fabrics and colors\, but harmonious\, reflecting the seasons and moods: creations inspired by kimonos. At the same time\, after a period of great closure\, Japan was inspired by the West\, to such an extent that even women began to wear\, as an alternative to the kimono\, European dresses and be called moga (modern girls). A bilateral contamination where the tradition of a culture becomes the transgression of the other without compromising its elegance. Following the rhythm of the story\, “Giapponizzati. Racconti di un viaggio di moda” retraces the sequence of styles and different periods\, between revival and contemporary. The exhibit shows garments created by well-known designers\, emerging designers\, tailors and international guests who have interpreted the theme of Japan in various ways. Here on display\, set up as works of art\, ancient Japanese kimonos\, obi\, hakama\, coming from important private collections. \nAmong the 40 present creations: Antonio Marras\, Gattinoni\, Comme des Garçons\, Maurizio Galante\, Issey Miyake\, Yohji Yamamoto. Among the young designers: Tiziano Guardini (winner of the Green Carpet Awards)\, Italo Marseglia\, Ivan Donev\, Santo Costanzo\, Alessandra Giannetti\, Silvia Giovanardi\, Tommaso Fux. In addition\, also brands between art and fashion like NOH (Anna Rotella in collaboration with the artists Marco Carac and Fabio Truffa) and Dedalus Art (the artist Marco Carac in collaboration with the designer Anna Rotella). A tribute to the great theatre with astonishing costumes from the historical archives of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and Annamode. The setting of the exhibition\, in addition to authentic rugs and fabrics of the Land of the Rising Sun\, will be enriched by the sculptures inspired by the Manga created by the artist Federico Paris. \n  \nFree entrance inauguration\nThe exhibition is open from Tuesdays to Fridays from 9.30 to 16\nSaturdays\, Sundays and holidays from 10.30 to 17 hours\nwith the entrance ticket of the Castle: full: € 8.00 reduced: € 6.00 \nthe ticket office closes an hour earlier
